Inspired Mountain Elopement – Juli and Jonathan 5.24.19

Juli – our amazing Canadian bride, grew up not far from where I did!  We planned everything via email until we finally met in person the day before her wedding day!  During planning, I always ask for a few words or phrases to help decipher each couples individual style.  The helpful answers are often something like “classic”, “rustic” or “elegant”.  So when Juli wrote me back and described her style as “Gothic Titania from a Midsummer Night’s Dream” – well, I had a pretty good idea that this was going to be AH-MAZING!!!  Juli and Johnathan are both so talented and creative!  They enjoy going to costume conventions, and creating their own special looks.  So you won’t find it hard to believe that Juli made her own gothic black wedding dress, as well as designing her own shoes!  Juli and Jonathan also added touches of personality and whimsy to their wedding decor with some favorite characters from the comic universe.  Our officiant Alan, who was born in Wales,  is always especially excited when a couples chooses to include a Celtic Handfasting Ceremony as a part of their wedding.  This is a centuries old tradition from which the phrase “tying the knot” was born.  As couples make their vows, a special cord is wrapped around their hands, one time for each promise made.  Juli and Jonathan wove their special handfasting cord together as a part of their wedding preparations, and it will remain a beautiful keepsake of their love and dedication to one another.  We had an epic time on the mountain top – Juli was just stunning in her black gown, and Jonathan wasn’t too hard on the eyes either 🙂  I loved hearing stories of Juli’s travels and the newlyweds plans for future adventures.  When you meet them, it is so easy to tell they share a deep love and respect for one another.  And their sense of fun and adventure pretty much guarantees they have fun wherever they go!  (The day after their wedding, their itinerary included a “baby goat cuddling session” booked at a nearby farm – see, these guys are just so fun!)  I am excited to share some favorite moments from such a special and incredibly unique wedding day…

We all promised never to tell that I almost fell in the pond getting this shot with the Iris…shhhhh…

Juli’s shoes were a work of art!  She purchased plain shoes, and then did all the finishing herself – hand dyeing them, adding the lace embroidery and the sparkles!

Congratulations Juli and Jonathan from the entire GHI family!

xoxo – Heather
