“I have often been teased about my love for Funfetti cake” Kira said smiling to herself, as she iced the tiny heart shaped cake in our kitchen on the morning of her wedding day. Later that day, her guests would be treated to a towering traditional wedding cake, but Kira had baked a small gluten free cake so she could enjoy in the desserts as well. “To thine own self be true” are probably some of the wisest words that have ever been spoken, and we just loved watching Kira and Dan make their wedding day plans, always being true to themselves in the process! Their table centerpieces were inspired by still life portraits, and reminded me of the fun “I Spy” books I used to read with my girls when they were little. Each table had a personalized centerpiece…Egypt and Travel (which Kira was fascinated by during her childhood), Baking, Games and The Sea. And at each place setting, a tiny suitcase filled with a handmade mask awaited each guest. Kira was joined on her wedding morning by a quartet of wonderful friends who kept the mood in the dressing room filled with jokes and laughter (this is the spot where I should tell you about the life-sized Fabio cutout who stood watch over the bridal suite…but that story might best be saved for another day 🙂 A handmade quilt served as the backdrop of Kira and Dan’s ceremony space, and it was later brought indoors for guests to sign as a non-traditional guest book. A delicious meal was served by Hotcakes catering, and followed by cake and dancing. There are so many special details to share…Dan and Kira’s “groom and bride” pandemic masks, Kira in her gown (she reminded me of a beautiful renaissance painting, with her gorgeous updo and calm, serene smile – a simply stunning bride), a touching “first look”, heartfelt toasts, and lovely portraits on the grounds of the Golden Horseshoe Inn. Enjoy this little sneak peek of all the funfetti goodness of Kira and Dan’s August wedding day…
Congratulations to the newlyweds from the entire GHI family!
