Blue Ridge Mountains Elopement Rachel & Ian 7.30.20

“I have for the first time found what I can truly love – I have found you.  You are my sympathy – my better self – my good angel.  I am bound to you with a strong attachment.  I think you good, gifted, lovely; a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wraps my existence about you and fuses you and me in one”

– From Jane Eyre, spoken by Mr. Rochester

In the bridal suite I had joked with Rachel that she was making all my Jane Austen dreams come true…with her simple yet gorgeous wedding dress, her ballet slipper flats, and her romantic floral crown.  She was a vision, and seemed to have stepped right from the pages of a novel of days gone by.  So when, during the wedding ceremony, she slowly unfolded her vows, and began to read them to her groom Ian, I was delighted, but not completely surprised that she included the beautiful quote above, in her vows.  Rachel and Ian’s wedding day was calm and quiet, simple, and elegant, it was lovely in every possible way.  I loved the way this sweet couple eschewed normal wedding tradition, and went back and forth between their dressing rooms, laughing and visiting each other and getting advice on the details of their wedding attire.  Rachel’s color scheme of ivory and peaches and pinks was perfect for this summer elopement, and her beautiful, flowy bouquet seemed to magically pull all those colors together.  We’d like a look that is a “natural with a touch of rustic, boho, and a little bit hippie”, Rachel told me in an email, when describing the desired design of their sweethearts table.  Using those words as inspiration, I had fun early on their wedding morning creating a design that I hoped would be the perfect setting for their celebration…an antique pie safe as a backdrop, ivory lace, and a mix n match grouping of wooden, burlap, and vintage details.  After a lovely time preparing for the wedding, an outdoor ceremony and an indoor cool down with cake and champagne, we realized the weather radar was not looking good, and decided it was time to head to the mountain.  It was an unforgettable experience, watching the storm approach from the distance…white fog slowly drifting closer and closer towards us.  We had exactly the amount of time we needed to get some breathtaking mountain photos and get snug in the car before the rain arrived…everything had unfolded perfectly!  I am so excited to share some favorite images from this fairy tale wedding day…

Congratulations to the happy couple!

-xoxo Heather
