I think if I could only take one type of portrait for the rest of my life, Sweet 16 photo shoots would be my choice. There is a sweet kind of magic in turning 16, isn’t there…the whole wide world spread out before you, just waiting for you to make your mark. I am constantly amazed by the spirit, the talent and the energy of the amazing young people in my life. I took my eldest daughter’s Sweet Sixteen photos earlier this year, and as the mom of girls, it was so. much. fun to get this chance to do a boy photo shoot!
He is a part of our “dance family” and the most crazy-talented, genuine, kind hearted kid you could hope to meet. An incredible talent on the stage, and a musician who dedicates hours of practice each day to multiple instruments. And all this while being as thoughtful, polite and humble as you can imagine.
When my own little dancer moved up into a higher level class, a class where everyone already had their space at the barre, Dylan was the kid who noticed she was alone, and made room for her to dance beside him.
Soulful. Inclusive. Enthusiastic. What a kid!
I was so excited when Dylan’s mom asked me to help commemorate his “sweet sixteen in quarantine” with some special photos. She had already done the most bang up job with a “socially distant” birthday party. A custom designed cake (featuring favorite musical theatre marquee’s!) and a fancy handmade party hat was hand delivered to each guest, and then everyone celebrated via a Zoom party – pure genius!
I am so excited to share a few favorite images from Dylan’s Sweet Sixteen photo shoot…
Below is one of the incredible custom party hats from his birthday Zoom celebration – a pretty great upgrade from the paper cones we wore back in my day 🙂
Happy Birthday Dylan!
