“I’m not sure which shoes I’ll wear”, Melody laughed as she juggled several pale blue shoe boxes that she pulled from her bag. “We were supposed to be married in Colorado, so I had my dress fitted with my hiking boots…”. There are so many moments like this lately…a strange mix of funny and serious, happy and wistful, all rolled into one. The pandemic that has changed all our lives, has certainly changed weddings this Spring as well. But I am constantly amazed at the resilient spirits of our brides and grooms. Those who had planned all along to be married with us, and those who came to us by chance, blown our way by the winds of change as their original plans morphed into something new and unexpected. And if anything beautiful has come out of this worldwide situation, it is a deeper understanding of the things that really matter. Things like marrying your best friend, facing down a difficult situation with a true partner by your side. That is why it is so affirming to be a part of a day like Melody and Alan’s wedding day. What an honor to see the love shared between them. The gentle way they laugh together, and the “can do” spirit that will take them down wonderful paths, far beyond their wedding day. I have always loved small weddings for their ability to whittle a life changing day down to the things that really matter…and this day was so full of those things! A blush and sage color scheme set the soft and romantic tone for the day. Melody and her mom spent several happy hours together preparing in the bridal suite. Later in the day we got to meet Alan’s parents, along with his sister Linda and her lovely date Cameron. There were no hugs or handshakes, but there was still a wonderful sense of excitement in the air. A breeze blew across the wedding deck as Melody and her father Brad walked down the aisle, the sun sparkled on the pond…and the geese who visit us every year to raise their goslings could be heard every so often in the background. After a lovely ceremony, we searched the grounds for the best picture spots, and had some good fun with the pandemic essentials “tp, hand sanitizer and clorox wipes”…these will be some fun wedding photos to explain to future generations 🙂 It was a sweet and romantic wedding day, and although many of the details may have been unexpected or unplanned, it was still the best day ever. I am so excited to share some favorite moments from this very special wedding day…
Congratulations to the happy couple! From the entire GHI family!
